Collector & decorator’s dream.
Authentic antique Rose of Sharon quilt, c.1880–1900.
Entirely hand appliquéd and hand quilted, featuring soft blush pink florals and warm yellow motifs arranged in the classic Rose of Sharon pattern on a white cotton ground. The palette is gently time-softened and elegant.
Beautiful quilting throughout, including cross-hatching, feathered wreaths, and feather swag quilting along the border that reads as white-on-white from a distance.
White cotton backing with hand-finished binding.
Measures approx. 77" x 72" — an excellent usable size.
Condition:
Good antique condition with light overall toning consistent with age. Faint fold-line oxidation and mild perimeter warmth typical of stored 19th-century quilts are present.
A few small scattered spots (including one on the back, shown) and one very small tear on the back near the upper right corner.
Original quilting guide marks are still faintly visible in areas, a common and charming feature of hand-marked 19th-century quilts.
Front remains visually strong. Quilt is structurally sound and usable.
Please review all photos carefully, as they form part of the description.
As with all antique textiles, I’ll leave any future cleaning or conservation decisions to the new owner’s preference.
A beautiful example of late-19th-century American quiltmaking — even better in person.
