An authentic mid-19th century Oak & Reel appliqué quilt dating to circa 1845–1870, placing it firmly within the Civil War era and approximately 155–180 years old.
Bold hand-appliquéd oak leaves are joined by classic reel connectors and framed by an elegant bow and swag border.
Measures approximately 80" x 82" — a generous, display-worthy size.
Entirely hand appliquéd and hand quilted.
The quilting features tight, even crosshatching across the white ground, creating beautiful texture and dimension consistent with mid-19th century workmanship.
Please note:
The original green appliqué fabric has lightened and softened over time into a gentle sea-glass tone. There are visible areas of thinning and fabric separation within portions of the appliqué (please see photographs). The quilt remains structurally sound and stable overall, and the appliqué is not actively shredding when handled.
The reverse is plain white with clearly visible hand quilting. There is a faint, isolated area of yellowing near the upper portion on the back only; it does not extend through to the front. The binding appears original with light, expected edge wear consistent with age.
Signs of age, wear, and fabric variation are characteristic of antique textiles of this period and reflect the quilt’s history and authenticity.
